Some accountants are FBI agents—they carry a guns and work undercover; some are forensic accountants, the private detectives of the business world. Each year, the Educational Foundation awards college scholarships to qualified accounting students in their fifth year who are working towards the 150-hour requirement needed to receive their CPA license. The Educational Foundation supports the APBP training for Wisconsin teachers to assist with providing a high-quality accounting curriculum for students. The WICPA Educational Foundation supports numerous state-wide activities to assist with broadening and advancing the awareness, perception and future of the accounting profession. “My week was very exciting. I got to see what an accountant does and how many big corporations there are in Pittsburgh. I learned that each type of accountant is very different. This week opened my eyes to what I can do. I’m definitely considering accounting.”

By leveraging the goodwill and resources from key stakeholders such as local accounting firms, industry, and professional associations, you can make it happen. The Co-op Connection is a special networking and recruitment event for undergraduate students and regional employers. Open specifically to employers who recruit professional co-op students for three and six month co-op terms starting in summer 2023 in the Engineering, Business, and Science fields. Hundreds of companies participate in virtual career fairs, so take advantage of the opportunity to expand your network and connect with recruiters. It is a profession that is being guided by principles, concepts, conventions, laws, etc.

Statistics like this were introduced to the high school students who recently attended the Second Annual Accounting Career Awareness Program on Point Park University’s campus. ACAP is a program of the National Association of Black Accountants. Department of Labor, the GetMyFuture section of CareerOneStop is a valuable resource for all kinds of career-related questions such as how to apply to college, how to write a resume or how to be self-employed. Include Giveaways – Kids will love if you offer prizes for participation. Consider using a spinning wheel and let them “spin to win” for rewards if they answer a presenter’s questions correctly.

The 2023 Accounting Institute will build on the inaugural program by adding a two-week session that focuses on forensic accounting. Support Kentucky’s future business leaders by sponsoring KyCPA’s FAB Careers Day! This exploratory field trip allows high school students to be introduced to the many opportunities within finance, accounting and business .

Social Networks

The Educational Foundation sponsors an informational booth for students at the annual state competitions in the spring, and members also participate in judging the competitions. The ACAP students also heard presentations from business professionals throughout the region and had the opportunity to network with them. They visited several public accounting firms in Downtown Pittsburgh, engaged in team-building exercises and took part in “Funfest” which included a pizza party, cosmic bowling and laser tag. – Have students create a life profile of how they envision themselves in the future (this can be a project-based activity). Include college, career, geographical location, even family or hobby goals.

In this four-week, real-world learning experience, students use standard concepts from managerial and cost accounting to help local business BeYoutiful Bath Bombs maximize its profits. Staff your booth with 2-4 representatives, and have one-on-one chats with students from around the state. Each booth representative is able to engage in 2-3 chats at once. When students connect you will be able to see information about the student such as grade level, favorite subject in school, and career interests. A handy feature included within the platform is a notification setting which “dings” when a student has entered your booth and wants to chat.

Campus Resources

They give advice to the companies upon the investment, tax strategies, and risk management. They usually work for the offices, and they would use the computers as the reference and calculations. This WICPA e-newsletter is sent three times each year to provide information about Educational Foundation activities and programs that create awareness of the accounting profession. It also encourages volunteer opportunities and ways to help ensure the future vitality of the profession in Wisconsin.

• NEW WILMINGTON, PA – The Westminster College School of Business welcomed several high school students to campus on Thursday, Nov. 8, for the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Accounting Career Day.
• The event drew over 350 high school students and teachers to campus and featured speakers as well as a student panel.
• Career Survey – One of the best activities to do before a career day is to simply get kids thinking about their personal interests and goals.
• The AICPA has prepared a resource guide for this program with guidelines and suggestions for implementing it.
• The Educational Foundation supports the APBP training for Wisconsin teachers to assist with providing a high-quality accounting curriculum for students.

Get to Know your Neighbors – Inspired by this great throwback video, get a large piece of craft paper to draw a neighborhood in your town and list potential jobs related to that area. Coordinate Rooms – Determine how many classrooms will be available to use including common areas such as the library, cafeteria and computer lab. Once you decide on the presentation style , begin to make a master list of how many presenters you will need.

Get Your Class In The Game

The Pennsylvania CPA Foundation offers many ways for high school students to learn more about accounting career opportunities. This past fall, we hosted four in-person Accounting Career Days. Students also had the opportunity to participate via a virtual platform with career speakers, virtual campus tours, and more. Thirty-seven of these schools were from Niche’s Most Diverse School Districts in Pennsylvania list. Asked if they were considering a career in accounting both before and after the event, attendees’ “yes” responses increased by 51 % afterward. If the goal of education is to prepare students for the future, then nothing brings this reality home more than hosting a career day at your school.

Communicate Early – About three months out you should contact High School Accounting Career Days and give them a schedule with details about what you are hoping they will contribute to the day.
